AC - A Life Saver?

Air Conditioning Can Actually Help Save Lives

Believe it or not, air conditioning in a home or office is about much more than just comfort. In some areas, the temperature and humidity can get so bad, that deaths occur because of it. Deaths of elderly, young children and babies and pets are the most that are recorded. Even if you might not think that the temperature in your home could ever get that bad, you just never know. If you live or work where extremely high temperatures do hit occasionally, you are going to want to make sure that you have proper air conditioning running.

Whether or not you go with central air is completely up to you. Many feel that there are negatives and positives to each choice. The bottom line though is that you need to have at least a portion of your home cooled off during the hot summer months, even if the living room is the only room with an air conditioner. This will provide a safe place for your family and pets to be during a heat wave.

Window AC Units' Downfall

The Downfall Of Window Air Conditioning Units

Even though you might be used to using only window air conditioning units, it is very important to make sure that you are doing all that you can to move up to a central air unit. With the window units, you are going to deal with a lot of hassle. You have to install and remove each of the air conditioners each season and you have to deal with a lot of condensation that will appear because of these units. With these units, you are also never going to be able to experience one steady temperature throughout the house. Even within in the same room, it might be freezing next to the window and "comfortable" on the opposite side of the room. This can make living comfortably a little difficult.

There is also the fact that you have to have a place to store these units when they are not in use and that they are subject to breaking easily. When they break or begin to not work as efficiently as they should, you are going to have to spend money to repair or replace them. Sure, repairs might be needed to central air units every once in a while, but generally not nearly as much as the window units.

Home AC Not as Pricey as You Might Think...

Air Conditioning For The Home Isn't As Expensive As You Think

Many people will stick with one or two window air conditioning units as they believe that the whole house air conditioning just is not something that is within their budget. There are a few things to consider though before you completely write off the idea. First, you need to make sure that you are shopping around. If you find the right air conditioning company, during the right time of year, you might just find yourself a few great deals. In some cases, financing may be available.

You will also want to think about how this will affect your property value. A home that has central air is very appealing to buyers, therefore, your home will be worth a little more. You want to make sure that you are also thinking of your comfort factor. Even if the central air unit is a little more than you would like to be paying, the benefit of comfort that you will receive from it will make it well worth it.

Time to Upgrade the Furnace

When Is It Time To Upgrade Your Furnace?

A lot of people try to put off buying a new furnace for as long as they possibly can. This is generally in an attempt to save them money, but it hardly ever works out that way. If you currently do not have an energy efficient furnace, you are going to find that you are spending more money each month than you should have to. Waiting too long might also put you in a position where your furnace finally blows completely, and you are pressed for time to find a replacement furnace. This could cause you to end up spending more money on a furnace instead of having the time to shop around and catch a good sale.

When your furnace gets too old, it is time to replace it, even if it is technically still working. Remember, it might still be working, but it might not be working as well as it should be. Save yourself time, money and a lot of frustration by being ahead of the game and purchasing your new furnace now. And in the mean time, be smart about energy usage and keep HVAC costs down by doing things such as temperature control, cleaning filters, etc.

HVAC for College Grads?

I read something interesting today. With all the job marketplace difficulties in today's world, HVAC can be a viable job opportunity, especially for those with college degrees.

Don't agree with me? Take a look at this article written for the Atlanta-Journal-Constitution.

Think about it: the work is steady, the hours are solid (for the most part) and the field has plenty of growth potential! You don't necessarily have to go to a trade school to learn the business either - many break into the business by learning the ins and outs through an apprenticeship.

So what would be better? Living at home after you graduated from college or getting a job and moving up in life? At least that's the argument the author makes....

Here in Manasssas VA we've got a booming, rewarding HVAC business. Beats being jobless at home, doesn't it?

Whole House AC

The Benefit Of Whole House Air Conditioning

There are a lot of people that are up in the air as to whether or not the should go for whole house air conditioning. One of the biggest worries that people have is that of the cost. However, if you run the numbers, you just might find that it is financially smarter to go with a whole house unit, versus several window unit air conditioners. One of the first things you might think is that the window units are a lot cheaper. However, if you think about how many units you will need, for each room of your house and the price of the quality units, you might still be spending a lot of money. Plus, these window units break easily which means you might find yourself replacing them every year.

Another thing you are going to want to consider is the resell value of your home and curb appeal. A home with 6 window unit air conditioners sticking out all over the place is not all that appealing. Also, should you have to sell your home, you will find that buyers will love the fact that there is a whole house air conditioning unit.

Here are some very helpful notes on Central Air Conditioners from the US Department of Energy.
